Vacationlog 2008.05.07: Sniff, cough, hack, ugh

There are few things worse than being sick while on vacation, but I'm going to try to not let it spoil this long-awaited—not to mention, much-needed—vacation. I started to feel the beginnings of a head cold a few days before we left, but today I woke up with all the symptoms raging. So far, the medicine I picked up at Walgreens hasn't helped much. My wife has threatened to make her ginger root and red onion tea if I'm not better by tomorrow. We'll see.

Still, we had a great day. We intended to go to Universal Studios, but we ended up in Islands of Adventure. Mostly, we walked around the comic-centric stores. The Spider-Man ride was quite a thrill. Of course, the cold medicine may have given it a bit more kick than normal...

We spent the late afternoon and early evening at the Universal CityWalk. Not that I was disappointed, but it's not quite up-to-par with Downtown Disney. There were enough shops and restaurants to keep us occupied for the afternoon, though.

We were ready for dinner early, around 4 PM, after having had a light lunch. However, the restaurants didn't open for dinner until 5 PM. So, we spent a little while trying not to get cranky, and wait for the Latin Quarter to open. "It was worth the wait," my wife remarked as she polished off her steak fajitas. I wholeheartedly agreed. Their Tres Leches dessert was a great finish.

The plan for tomorrow is to stay around the resort and enjoy the pools. We'll rejuvenate, then hit Universal Studios on Friday.
